CLEANLINESS AND SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
Here at Groton Station House Restaurant we are working hard to ensure the safety of our staff and clientele. We have implemented some additional safety measures as we reopen our facility. We’ve been taking our time to reopen to ensure everyone’s health and safety.
ARTIST SPOTLIGHT WITH SUE MARION
The overused cliche, “a picture says a thousand words,” proves true within the walls of The Groton Station House. Many guests ask our waitstaff questions about the dozens of art pieces we have displayed throughout the Bar, the Lounge, and the Main Dining Room. Some of our framed pieces picture The Groton School some fifty years ago while others picture historic McElroy family memorabilia. The Groton Station House is lucky enough to have developed a friendly relationship with the artist behind many of our most beloved pieces.
WINE 101: THE BASICS OF WINE PAIRING
Ordering wine at a restaurant can be a daunting task when you don’t have a lot of experience. If you’re anything like me, you order the “house” wine selection because it saves you the indecision and potential stress… if you hate it, at least it was cheap. However, what happens when you go on a date, host a private dining event, hold a business dinner meeting, or some other occasion that requires a bottle of wine? In these cases, gaining some wine knowledge would greatly improve your dining experience.
THE HISTORY OF THE GROTON STATION HOUSE
Since its opening in 1915, 20 Station Avenue has been a gathering place for Groton residents of all ages. The building was originally designed and maintained as an Odd Fellows Hall from 1915 to 1940; a meeting place for Groton’s elite fraternity chapter. After 1940, the town of Groton purchased the property and renovated the building – adding an additional 5,000 square feet – to accommodate the Groton Fire Department.
